WOW, time really gets away from you with an infant. It’s been almost 2 months since we posted last and as most people know, a lot can happen in two months with a little one. So, where to begin…
Well, Chip and I went on a vacation in May to Mexico. It was a nice and relaxing time and a chance for David to spend lots of time with Mimi & Papa. The story goes that while we were gone, my Mom had a little talk with David about the fact that she needed her sleep and so, David started sleeping through the night!! Yes, he has been sleeping through the night ever since, give or take a few nights where we have to go in and stick the pacifier in his mouth. But, all-in-all, he’s sleeping through the night and we are very thankful (oh and when I say sleeping through the night, I mean 8pm to 6am…so, really sleeping through the night).
In addition to that bit of good news, David has also started smiling and giggling. He loves looking at you and talking or cooing. I think he might be like Mommy and talk a lot once he figures out how…we’ll see what happens. Also, he loves standing on our laps. It’s very cute, but gets a little tiring since we’re doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
Speaking of heavy lifting…David had his 4-month appointment 2 weeks ago and weighed a whopping 13 lbs 2 oz and measured in at 24 3/4 in. He is starting to be a big boy. He’s actually catching up well to where he ought to be. He was in the 25th percentile for weight and about the 20th percentile for height. So, (as the nurse said) he is not having any trouble gaining weight!
In other news, we took a big trip to NC in mid-June. We started off by going to Asheville to visit Chip’s parents (Grandmommy & Grandaddy) and Aunt Teresa. Chip had a short business trip while we were there, which is why we ended up going down a little early. So, David and I did a lot of visiting Grandmommy at work, going shopping with Grandmommy, and just hanging out at home with Grandmommy. David also got to meet our friends Bob & Judy Taylor and Kristina & Eric Lewis. Kristina is due in August with a little girl, so the joke is that we’ve already arranged the marriage between their daughter and David and we kept referring to her as David’s future wife :-). The timing also worked out for me to attend Kristina’s baby shower, which was a lot of fun!!
The following Monday we headed to Cary, NC via Elk Park, NC to visit one of my high school friends who just bought a restaurant there. It was exciting to see her & her restaurant and give her the chance to meet David. So, if you’re ever in the Elk Park area, check out Around the Corner at Time Square.
That evening we arrived in Cary and Uncle Matt & Jaime got to meet David for the first time…though he was a little tired by that point, so he didn’t stay up long. That week, David also met his cousins Sara, Alex, & Nathan for the first time, as well as his Uncle Paul. So, needless to say, he had a busy week and that was just the beginning.
The weekend of June 19, we had David baptized at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Wake Forest, NC. The priest who married me & Chip performed the ceremony and we had TONS of friends and family there to celebrate with us. We want to thank everyone who came, especially our friend James from San Diego and my sister Amanda who are David’s Godparents. Also, my parents hosted the luncheon following the Baptism and Chip’s Mom made the baptismal gown from my wedding dress, so we’d like to especially thank them for all of their help to make this such a joyous occasion.
After the Baptism, we all went back to my parents’ house and enjoyed lunch. We also played a lot of pass the baby with David. As tired as David was, he did not want to take a nap, but eventually he did fall asleep in my arms. It was a very exciting day for him and I don’t think he wanted to miss the action.
Since then, we have also gone to see my grandparents in OH for the 4th of July. My Dad’s side of the family had a 4th of July picnic on Saturday at his cousin’s house, so we got to show off David to a lot of extended family that we don’t get to see real often. It was a lot of fun, but as is the case with David, he was ready to go by 7pm, so we didn’t actually get to see the fireworks and he was asleep by the time the fireworks went off around our town on Sunday. So, maybe next year he’ll really get to experience the 4th of July.
For the rest of the summer, we don’t have any trips planned until Labor Day weekend. That weekend David and I will be flying to NC for my Dad’s 60th birthday. We might all be going to the beach that weekend, so there will be more firsts for David…first time flying and first time at the beach. In addition, we have some family coming to visit. Chip’s oldest sister, Leigh, and her family are thinking about coming for a while in August and then his youngest sister, Teresa, and her husband are probably coming the end of August. So, I’m sure we’ll have more to post after all of those visits and trips too!
Here are a lot of pictures from the last few months. Sorry there are so many, but I just couldn’t decide what to include!! Check out the videos too!!
Video of David spitting…it’s quite funny & he was doing this all day
